Director, School of Hospitality and Human Ecology
The School of Hospitality and Human Ecology (SHHE) was established in the year 2010 and was then known as School of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (SHTS). SHTS was originally known as the Department of Institutional Management (IM), which was first established in 1964. SHHE therefore, is one of the oldest units offering higher education training in hospitality and tourism management in Kenya. Structurally, the School is organized into four distinct teaching and operational departments. The School, through academic and extension services, is committed to delivering quality community-capacity building programmes, research, professional development and life-long learning opportunities in the fields of Hospitality, Food & Consumer studies, Fashion, Clothing and Textile and Psychology and Human Development. .
SHHE is focused on producing internationally competitive practitioners, managers and leaders for community-based, county and regional hospitality, leisure and tourism and Fashion industries as well as to build human resource capacity in psychology and counseling to work in both public and private entities. The degree and diploma programmes comprise intensive theoretical and practical training as well as extensive Industry-Based Learning (IBL) and community service. Upon completion of the course, graduates are sufficiently prepared and equipped with the knowledge, skills, technologies and tools to assume responsibility as entry and mid-level supervisors, managers, and leaders within public organizations and government departments, private sector enterprises, international agencies, and community-based organizations.
